Overall score: ★★★★☆
There’s a nice wee strip of pubs on Leith Walk that cater for vegans. Just down the road from The Brass Monkey, you’ll find Woodland Creatures – a quirky pub with a small food menu that boasts a couple of cruelty-free options.
Vegan food available at Woodland Creatures
The vegan selection at Woodland Creatures is small but perfectly acceptable and clearly marked on the menu. At the time of writing, you can choose from:
- Flat bread pizza with tomato sauce, butternut squash, caramelised onion and chilli oil
- Sweet potato and beetroot vegan burger cumin roasted sweet potato, beetroot and red bean patty with guacamole, baby gem lettuce, tomato, wedges and pickled slaw
- Potato wedges (just ask for it to be served without the mayo)
The vegan flatbread pizza is less than a fiver and pretty tasty as a snack. Pizzas without a decent cheese substitute can be pretty hit-and-miss, however the chilli oil gave this pizza a nice punch of flavour. The sweet potato and beetroot burger is around double the price, but you do get a lot more food for your money. The burger alone is pretty filling, but the side of wedges and slaw makes this a pretty solid meal. If you fancy the pizza but you’re not sure if it’s going to fill you up, then simply order it with a side of wedges without the menu and that will see you right.
It’s a small friendly bar with a great vibe, perfect if you’re meeting up for a casual night with some omni (or vegan!) friends.
