The Beet Box by Edinburgh Beetroot Café
100 Melville Drive
Overall score: ★★★★★
The Beet Box is a relatively new addition to the Meadows. Having recently opened in the police box by Jawbone Walk, you can now enjoy healthy and wholesome soups, wraps and cakes made lovingly by Marie-Anne and her team.
Vegan food available at The Beet Box
Everything here is completely vegan, so you can have your pick of whatever you would like off the menu without the worry of scoffing any accidental animal products. The Beet Box also stocks some gluten-free goodies, so just ask what’s on offer when you visit.
There’s no fixed menu at The Beet Box, however they normally offer a sandwich or wrap, a hot option of either a soup or stew, and a salad or goddess bowl. There’s also a mouthwatering range of tasty cakes to try, all made with wholesome ingredients. You may even find some raw cakes on offer too.
You will also find goodies for your four-legged friend as well, as The Beet Box’s foodie range includes vegan dog treats!
This great wee takeaway café is brilliant for picking up a snack or a healthy lunch. Recently Mr B and I popped by on a cold crisp Saturday for a comforting bowl of roast squash soup and a slice of artisan bread, which we heartily enjoyed while watching the world go by from a bench on The Meadows. It was bliss. We also sneaked a wee taste of the peanut butter jelly cake, and can confirm it tastes like absolute heaven.
The Beet Box is currently open Monday – Friday 8am – 2.30pm, and Saturday 10am – 4pm.
