I’m a huge fan of Red Box Noodle Bar – with all of the different vegan ingredients available, the number of combos you can have are practically endless. I dined there recently with a couple of my vegan chums (hiya Michelle and Lucie), and yet the three of us each had quite different dishes – as you can see from the pictures above.

It’s a simple idea but executed brilliantly – you know that you have got a good bowl of noodles when you are fighting with your chopsticks to grab that very last strand! And at £6.30 per bowl, it’s pretty good value for money too. A great wee gem in the Old Town.

  • Unless they have changed and now prepare the sauces themselves, most of the sauces are NOT VEGAN. Last time I was there (Toll Cross, now gone I think) a few months ago we discovered they buy their sauces pre-prepared and pre-packed and we were shown the packaging and read the ingredients. Only one sauce was vegan, the sweet and sour!

    • Oh no! All the information listed above is clearly marked ‘VEGAN’ on a sign located the counter in their West Nicolson Street branch (I think you’re right – the Tollcross takeaway has closed). Seen as it is a different location and doesn’t even offer sweet and sour sauce as an option, it could be that the situation has changed since you visited. I have contacted Red Box for comment and am waiting for their response.
