Ask pretty much any Edinburgh resident where they like to go for pizza, and one name will come up time and again: La Favorita.
Owned by local Italian restaurant chain Vittoria, this restaurant is located on Leith Walk, but there are also delivery branches dotted across the city. When I found out that this Edinburgh stalwart catered for vegans, I was jumping for joy!
Vegan options available at La Favorita
In fact, it’s very easy to eat vegan at La Favorita. As their pizza base is already vegan (you can order a gluten-free alternative, too), all you have to do is request your pizza to be made with vegan cheese and stick to veggie toppings. The bruschetta starter is vegan, as well.
Here are the kind of toppings you can get on your pizza:
- Vegetariana Tomato, vegan cheese, cherry tomatoes, mushroom, grilled courgette and mixed peppers
- or build your own with your choice of the following: mushrooms, olives, peppers, artichokes, aubergine, pineapple, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, onions and many more
Even though there are no clear vegan labels on the menu (hopefully they get this sorted soon!) my server confirmed that the bruschetta was vegan so I had that to start. I don’t think the pictures above illustrate this fact enough, but the serving was huge! Make sure you leave enough room for your pizza…
The vegan pizza at La Favorita is really good. In the past, I have had pizzas here where the vegan “cheese” was scattered on in big overpowering chunks, but they seem to have realised that small cubes spread over the pizza and make it taste much better.
Overall La Favorita do a good offering, and its nice to know that vegans are catered for in this popular pizza spot. If you’re looking for somewhere to go that will cater for vegan and omnivore friends alike, this is a great option.
