January can only mean one thing – it’s #Veganuary time! There are lots of great deals going on this month to celebrate, so I thought I would take advantage of one of them – 50% off vegan food at Handmade Burger Co.
Handmade Burger Co. is one of my favourite chains, with locations all across the UK. Not to be confused with Gourmet Burger Kitchen (that ad campaign – shudder), Handmade Burger Co. has a whole bunch of vegan burgers to choose from.
Edinburgh only has one restaurant at the moment, which can be found in Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre in Leith. It’s not the handiest for me personally, so I hope they are thinking of opening an establishment in the city centre soon…! 🙂
Vegan options at Handmade Burger Co.
I am really impressed with the range of vegan burgers available at Handmade Burger Co. Over half of their vegetarian range is also suitable for vegans, so you have a great choice compared to most other burger places. At the time of writing, these are the burgers suitable for vegans:
- Cajun vegetable and bean: The original Handmade Burger Co. relish, lettuce, tomato and red onion served on a sourdough bun
- Veg-Mex: Veggie patty with Mexican salsa, crushed avocado, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and red onion served on a sourdough bun
- Sweet potato and bean: Mango and ginger salsa, lettuce, tomato and red onion served on a sourdough bun
- Thai vegetable: Thai vegetable patty, grilled peppers, sweet chilli sauce, red onion and watercress. Served on a (you guessed it) sourdough bun
There are also lots of vegan sides to choose from too, including fresh cut chips, sweet potato fries, mixed side salad, gherkins and jalapeños.
As much as I would love to explore all the other burgers on the menu, every time I dine at Handmade Burger Co. I find myself gravitating to the veg-mex burger – I love the flavours of the salsa and the copious amounts of avocado they use. Normally this is one of the most expensive veggie options on the menu, but today the 50% off certainly took the sting out of it.
I did, however, take a punt and try the cajun chips this time around (I normally go for the regular version) and I must say I was very impressed! Yes, the seasoning had a bit of a kick to it but it wasn’t overpowering by any stretch. In fact, the spice went quite nicely with my veg-mex burger. I’ll definitely order them again in the future.
With branches all over the country, Handmade Burger Co. is a solid shout for anyone craving a vegan burger fix.
